Battlefield Park is a living history museum and site of the historic Battle of Stoney Creek on June 6, 1813, which was fought during the War of 1812. On February 16, 2019 a different kind of battle was fought with sound by electronic music duo "Dad vs Son." They braved the ice and snow to bring their experimental grooves to the courageous crowds of Winterfest 2019.

Son (age 13): Roland TR8 Digital Drum Machine

Dad (age 42): Lapsteel, Korg R3 Digital Synth, Harmonica, 4-track Tape Loop of lapsteel and analog synth sounds.

This recording contains a couple firsts for Dad vs Son. It was their first outdoor show. It was also their first outdoor winter show, which caused the need to change some of their gear. Much of Dad vs Son's sound comes from using analog synths. The trouble with analog gear is that if the circuits can't get to the right temperature the instrument won't stay in tune (no problem above 10 degrees Celsius but not possible in the snow) . Dad vs Son took this as a challenge to build their first set that left the analog synths at home. A digital synth and more traditional instruments like lapsteel and harmonica filled in the gap. To keep a little analog flavour in the mix they recorded tape loops specifically for this show with sounds of analog drones and back masked lapsteel.
